A System for Examination of the Pesticide Dose Transfer Process

In an attempt to better understand the interaction of drop size, distribution, and dosage on the efficiency of the pesticide dose transfer process, a system for generating uniform drops in various distribution patterns was developed. The system comprised a uniform droplet generator, with a variable speed conveyor to transport leaf disks or fruit samples, a photographic and fluorometric analysis unit, and a computer image analysis device for characterizing of spray droplet distributions. In addition, a video technique was utilized to record pest behavioral responses to droplet concentration and distribution parameters. The results of some initial studies are reported and ranges of potential uses described.
