Laboratory accreditation and quality system accreditation have been developing along parallel lines for some years but to date there has been little interaction between agencies undertaking the two functions. In New Zealand the Testing Laboratory Registration Council (TE-LARC) now undertakes both laboratory accreditation and quality system accreditation. This has allowed an integrated approach to be adopted focusing on quality assurance in the laboratory and the proper accreditation of quality control laboratories within industry.
