The Potential for Traffic Noise Reduction by Thin Masonry Panels

Heavy reinforced concrete and masonry walls are commonly used as protective barriers against highway noise. Recently, prefabricated thin brick wall panels have been proposed to isolate traffic noise from city streets and highways. This paper reviews the theoretical background on noise level reduction achieved by barriers erected on one side of the road and examines its application to thin masonry panels.
