Interlaminar Fracture Analysis of Unsymmetrical Laminates
SourceA simple analytical model is developed to predict the interlaminar stresses and the total strain energy release rate for delaminated unsymmetrical laminates. The method is based on a shear deformation theory and a sublaminate approach. The solution is obtained in closed form, and the controlling parameters are isolated. Results for a class of laminates with [-θ, (90-θ)2, -θ, θ, (θ-90)2, θ]T layup exhibiting extension-twist coupling are provided. Potential delamination sites are predicted by applying the analysis to laminates with successive delaminated interfaces. Critical interfaces are determined based on the peel stress distribution and the total strain energy release rate.
