Thermal change loads in structural glazing should be of great concern to all and are every bit as important as the usually quoted tension loads imposed from the wind. Strong winds are an infrequent event in most areas of the country and the maximum wind load is approached infrequently. Thermal changes are daily events, and large thermal changes happen often. This paper discusses the proper way to calculate the forces on the sealant from thermal change and proper design considerations to accommodate the expected thermal changes.
