Evaluation of the Damage Development in Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics by Monitoring Load-Induced Temperature Changes
SourceTemperature measurements are used to determine the behavior of materials under monotonic and cyclic loading. In tension tests, linear temperature stress relations result from only elastic deformations of the laminate, while deviations from linearity are indications for dissipative processes such as viscoelastic or plastic matrix deformations or crack formations. Under cyclic loading, the temperature change due to the dissipated work or due to the thermoelastic effect gives direct information about the damage state and damage development. In tests with a stepwise load increase and in constant amplitude loading tests, relations between the temperature changes and the damage state of the material can be found. Damage development is also investigated by strain measurements and radiography.
