The study included examination of the influence of variation in the geometry of the structural component as well as the variation in surface crack geometry. Strong dependency on geometry was experienced on the instability fracture toughness, which is directly a function of the triaxial state of stress, whereas the fracture toughness at initiation of stable crack growth confirmed that the crack-tip opening displacement (CTOD_i) essentially is a pure material parameter.
