The Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST) is owned and directed by 28 scientific societies, each in the food and agricultural area. Through the coordinated efforts of the societies, major task force reports are written on key national issues. These reports are distributed to federal and sometimes state policymakers. Environmental issues have been a major theme of CAST reports throughout the organization's 17-year history.
