Microemulsions of Pyrethroids : Phase Diagrams and Effectiveness of Tristyrylphenol Based Surfactants

Source

Tristyrylphenol based surfactants exhibit an excellent ability to microemulsify pyrethroids. A systematic construction of phase diagrams has shown that microemulsions made with these surfactants are not temperature sensitive. The effectiveness of a surfactant blend can be measured by the amount which is necessary to obtain a microemulsion at a water/oil ratio equal to one. These type of surfactants are in this sense more effective than nonylphenols. The main role of cosurfactant molecules is to disorder the lamellar organization of surfactant layers. The lamellar structure is locally conserved in microemulsions.
