Innovative Aspects of Leachate Containment with Composite Slurry Walls: A Case History
SourceThe main technological and construction features of a composite cement-bentonite slurry wall carried out for containment of subsoil pollution due to a chemical plant located in the northern part of Italy, are presented.
The subsoil profile shows a high permeability sand and gravel layer, 3 to 15 m thick, underlined by a natural low permeability stratum of overconsolidated and cemented clay, more than 150 m thick.
The solution adopted for remedial works was aimed to gain advantage from subsoil conditions which were nearly ideal for cut-off barrier effectiveness.
Design approach, preliminary and final checks are also described in the paper.
