Soil Corrosion Evaluation of Screw Anchors
SourceA corrosion evaluation study was performed in northern Minnesota to evaluate corrosion of galvanized screw anchors used as guy anchors to support a 500-kV electrical transmission line. The initial evaluation used field four-pin resistivity testing to locate areas of low resistivity. Laboratory chemical tests were performed on soil samples from selected areas. Instantaneous corrosion rates were evaluated using polarization testing techniques. Test anchors were later installed providing actual thickness and weight loss measurements.
