The durability of geotextiles — that is, the ability of the geotextile microstructure to resist degradation — is an important criterion for geotextile selection. The durability of a geotextile is influenced by its unique characteristics, such as polymer type, additives used, processing history, bonding mechanism, fiber element geometry, and fabric construction. Therefore, product specific testing is the only dependable approach to characterize the durability of a given geotextile. This paper details chemical and leachate compatibility testing of polyester needlepunched nonwoven geotextiles.
