Performance Test Methods for Geomembranes and Geocomposites Used in the Design of Waste Containment Facilities
SourceDuring the design process for today's generation of waste containment facilities, the design engineer must consider the use of geosynthetics, whether required by regulatory guidelines or sound engineering judgement. Just as with other civil engineering materials, geosynthetics are tested and evaluated using a variety of test methods.
This paper describes three performance test methods, two of which are draft test methods which are currently being used to evaluate performance properties of geomembranes and selected geocomposites: 엯 Wide strip tensile test; 엯 Direct shear test; and 엯 Large scale hydrostatic pressure test.
The paper will attempt to correlate performance test methodswith actual field performance based upon case histories of success and failure in geomembrane systems.
