Design Criteria for Underground Insulated Piping Systems
SourceThe U.S. Government encountered a series of major failures of underground heat distribution systems in the early 1950s. A task force of engineers from nine federal construction agencies was formed, under the auspices of the National Academy of Sciences, to determine the cause of the failures, to develop design criteria for new systems, and to recommend their implementation.
This paper details the results of those investigations and discusses the specific design criteria for each system included in the study.
