Dioxin Analytical Methods — General Description and Quality Control Considerations
Source2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin is of unique environmental concern because of its extreme toxicity and persistency. A well-documented procedure was developed to measure parts per billion levels in soil using high resolution gas chromatography/low resolution mass spectrometry. The method utilizes isotope dilution quantitation procedures with selected ion monitoring. A comprehensive quality assurance plan was developed to evaluate and verify data quality. Modified methods, based on low resolution mass spectrometry and tandem mass spectrometry, were developed to provide high quality data on a more timely basis.
