The structure and principles of the light scattering technique used to measure drop size distributions are briefly discussed. The sensitive nature of the optical system and the care required in adjustments are described. Comments on the detector and improvements in the later models are made. Suggestions for suitable equipment checks are offered. Calibration and sampling requirements are addressed. Lack of compatibility of models is explained.
