The Use of Anodic Polarization to Determine the Effectiveness of Calcium Nitrite as an Anodic Inhibitor
SourceChloride-induced corrosion of steel reinforcement in concrete is a major problem in the construction industry. The addition of a corrosion inhibitor to the concrete mix offers a practical solution to this problem. This study uses cyclic anodic polarization to show that calcium nitrite is an effective anodic inhibitor in a concrete-type environment. Furthermore, it is shown how anodic polarization can be used to determine the potential regions where steel is susceptible to rapid corrosion in the absence of chloride ions.
