Influence of Partial Unloadings Range on the - Curves of ASTM A106 and 3-Ni Steels
SourceAn investigation was performed to evaluate the effects of elastic unloadings on the J-integral-resistance curves of ASTM A106 Class C steel and 3-Ni steels. Compact specimens (1T) were tested using (1) the multispecimen technique, (2) the direct-current potential drop technique, and (3) an elastic unloading compliance technique with unloadings ranging from 10 to 90%. The two former techniques were 0% unloading procedures used to generate the reference J-R curves. These reference curves were compared with J-R curves obtained using elastic unloading for the two steels. Results indicated that use of the elastic unloading compliance technique caused no significant difference in the J-R curves.
