Anthropometric Fit Testing and Evaluation
SourceA major challenge facing designers and manufacturers of protective clothing and equipment is the establishment of a sizing system that will accommodate the body size variation of the user population as well as provide a good fit for individual users. This has been variously achieved by means ranging from hit-or-miss trial-and-error methods to the careful application of anthropometric design data. Ultimately, the success of the design and the sizing system can be established only by an anthropometric fit test in which garments or equipment are worn or used by subjects representing the size range of the user population and carefully evaluated for fit and function. Described here are guidelines for conducting such a fit test.
