A Method for Testing Fabrics with Molten Metals

This paper describes a method for testing fabrics with molten metals. The test evaluates the fabric's ability to protect people who are accidentally splashed by metals such as molten iron, aluminum, or brass.

Some test results are discussed to illustrate the application of the test method. The test procedure is substantially the same as a test method for evaluating heat transfer through materials upon contact with molten substances, now being developed by ASTM Subcommittee F23.80 on Molten Substances, a subcommittee of ASTM Committee F-23 on Protective Clothing.
