Using RS-170 Video Images for Quantitative Image Analysis
SourceWith the advent of image analysis systems based on personal computers with standard video interface cards (popularly known as frame grabbers), and the availability of inexpensive video cameras that can be routinely connected to light and electron microscopes (as well as others), consideration must be given to dealing with the particular characteristics and defects of the standard RS-170 signals for quantitative image analysis purposes. Some of these problems should be taken into consideration in selecting hardware, while others are amenable to subsequent correction by appropriate image processing. This paper outlines the major problems and limitations.
