Accelerating Remedial Investigations at Closing Air Force Installations

The Air Force, in coordination with the Environmental Protection Agency and state environmental regulatory agencies, is attempting to expedite the transfer of federal land to the public. The Air Force has implemented four programmatic and technical initiatives focused on streamlining environmental sampling strategies and decision-making processes to accelerate remedial investigations at a limited number of closing Air Force installations. The success of these initiatives may result in standardization of remedial investigation environmental sampling strategies and decision-making processes for the Air Force.
