A Long-Term Solution of a Sustainable Robust Self-Consolidating Grout Considering Natural Pozzolans
SourceAs part of accepted practice in sustainable concrete production, a high percentage of cement is commonly replaced with waste materials such as fly ash. This practice has only recently been investigated for use with grout in concrete masonry unit (CMU) construction. An initial comprehensive program that tested replacing a high percentage of cement with waste materials also showed that this replacement produces a sustainable grout as well as the potential for a self-consolidating sustainable grout. However, sustainability solutions using waste materials have created a new problem because the supply of these waste products may diminish in the future. This paper reflects upon the initial successes with self-consolidating grout using waste materials and asks whether waste product pozzolans can be replaced with natural pozzolans as a long-term solution.
