Fracture and Fatigue Properties of Cobalt Chrome Alloys Used For Medical Implants
SourceA method for determining the fatigue limit properties for metallic medical implant materials using an engineered test specimen is described. Here, we examine the fatigue properties of an as-received cobalt chrome alloy with accelerated testing to 10 million cycles for three R-ratios. Failure probability curves in alternating-mean stress space are determined to provide limit criteria for evaluating similar geometries during design optimization and validation.
