Properties of ToughMet 3 Copper-Nickel-Tin Alloy for Oxygen Enriched Atmosphere Applications

Source

ToughMet® 3, a high-performance copper-nickel-tin alloy, provides many advantages in demanding end-use applications ranging from aerospace sleeve and spherical bearings to oil and gas drilling components to industrial bearings such as heavy equipment wear plates or transmission thrust washers. ToughMet® 3 is spinodally hardened for high strength and hardness. It is designed to resist mechanical wear, galling, stress relaxation, corrosion, and erosion. It is nonmagnetic and easy to machine into complex components. In this paper, the mechanical properties and promoted ignition combustion behavior of ToughMet® 3, which make it ideally suited for applications in high-pressure oxygen enriched atmospheres, are discussed.
