Steelmaking Technologies and With Focus on Micro Inclusion Development for 700 ktons Production of State-of the Art 1C-1.5Cr Bearing Steel

Source

The global production of rolling bearings and components has necessitated the development of steelmaking processes capable of producing large quantities of high quality 1C-1.5Cr steels. In 1970, the Jiangyin Xing Cheng City steel plant, in the Jiangsu Province of China, produced just a few tons of steels for Chinese producers of rolling bearings, via a 5 ton process with oxygen contents in excess of 15 ppm. The Jiangyin Xing Cheng plant is today part of the CITIC Group and works closely with its global key customers. By studying the required steelmaking technologies and related quality assurance methodologies and making investments in best practice processes, the Binjiang plant of Jiangyin Xing Cheng currently produces >700 ktons of state-of-the-art 1C-1.5Cr rolling bearing steel with less than 6 ppm oxygen. The technology development events and the journey leading to the current leading position are described in this paper.
