Tribo-corrosion, a recently emerging new field, involves a scientific approach combining knowledge of corrosion and tribology and investigating the tribo-corrosion process in the usage of materials under wear and abrasive treatment. This paper presents the various actions undertaken in Europe in the field of tribo-corrosion research in order to propose an extension of the existing standard ASTM G119-04, “Determining Synergism between Wear and Corrosion,” toward passivating metallic materials.
