Extending the Corrosion of Heat-Rejecting Aluminum Surfaces Test for Developing and Evaluating Extended Service Interval Engine Coolant Formulations

Source

An independent testing laboratory has received numerous orders for modifications to the ASTM D4340 test method. These changes alter the time, temperature, and coolant concentration of the coolant sample in an effort to better understand the behavior of the coolant on heat-rejecting aluminum surfaces over extended periods of time. It is also possible to modify the corrosive challenges to the coolant by modifying the coolant mixture from the published method. This paper explores the possible value of using variations of ASTM D4340, including variations published in global original equipment manufactures (OEM) and industry specifications.
