Interaction of High-Cycle and Low-Cycle Fatigue on Fretting Behavior of Ti-6-4
SourceThe fretting behavior of Ti-6Al-4V when subjected to combined high-cycle fatigue/low-cycle fatigue (HCF/LCF) was investigated. Constant amplitude fretting fatigue tests were first conducted at room temperature at both 1 Hz and 200 Hz frequencies. The fretting fatigue life was smaller for the higher frequency condition than for the lower one. Then, fretting tests combining the interaction of both high-frequency and low-frequency waveforms were conducted which yielded similar lives to the constant amplitude fretting fatigue tests. Tests consisting of HCF/LCF blocks of 50:1, 500:1, and 5000:1 were examined where the ratio represented the number of HCF cycles to LCF cycles. Overall, Miner's linear damage summation rule provided a reasonable estimate of combined HCF/LCF fretting lives for the HCF/LCF tests considered.
