This study investigated the effects of detergent and water temperature on reduction of contamination in nitrile, neoprene, and barrier laminate glove materials after exposure to two granular pesticides: terbufos (Counter® 20CR) and tefluthrin (Force® 3G). Glove specimens were contaminated with granules in a covered petri dish. Specimens were washed in Launder-Ometer canisters with water at 60°C or 30°C with or without detergent. After laundering, the specimens were rinsed. Residues in the laundered glove specimens were extracted with solvent. Gas chromatography was used for the analysis of pesticide residue. The reduction of pesticide residue in glove materials by laundering was pesticide-specific and related to the pesticide, the glove material, detergent and laundering temperature. The statistical analyses showed that detergent had a significant effect on the reduction of pesticide contamination but laundering temperature did not.
