Reflections on Progress in Fracture Mechanics Research
SourceProfessor Jerold L. Swedlow was an outstanding student, educator, and researcher in the field of fracture mechanics, and he was a genuine friend to all. Indeed, his special assistance to his colleagues in transmitting their work in the field, which included his enormous and effective efforts in editorial work for the International Journal of Fracture Mechanics and his guidance as Chairman of the National Symposium Organizing Committee for many years, leaves us with a great debt of gratitude to him. It is a distinct pleasure and honor to present the “Third Annual Jerry L. Swedlow Memorial Lecture” as a tribute not only to “Jerry” but to his special friends, such as the late Dr. John Srawley, and many others.
