Standards for “Oversized” and “Severe” Hail Resistance of Elastomeric Coated Sprayed Polyurethane Foam (SPF) Roofing Systems
Source“Severe” (golf ball size) and “oversized” (baseball to softball size) hail has caused millions of dollars of damage to roofing systems. Facility managers and insurance carriers with extensive damages to their roofs are concerned with the performance of sprayed-in-place elastomeric coated SPF roof systems. Results of this research effort include: 1. Analysis and identification of performance factors of different types of elastomeric coated SPF roof systems for their “severe” and “oversized” hail resistance capability. 2. Identification of the hail resistance of SPF roof systems under normal and freezing temperatures. 3. Use of documented performance information to confirm hail resistance levels determined by static testing. 4. Identification of the validity of current industry information on hail resistance of elastomeric coated SPF roof systems. 5. Proposal for an industry process to reduce the risk of hail damage to SPF roof systems.
