Comparison of Standard and SEBS Modified Asphalts in BUR Membranes
SourceResults of a laboratory study comparing built-up roofing (BUR) membranes constructed with standard and styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene (SEBS) modified asphalts are discussed. In addition to the two asphalts, variants include several ASTM standard reinforcements as well as a number of standard membrane configurations. Testing of these membranes will focus on load-strain testing at -18°C (0°F), with particular emphasis on the determination of how these variables impact several load-strain and strain energy physical properties. An adjunct to this work includes a comparison of the aforementioned asphalts with room temperature T-peel adhesion testing. This work concentrated on three polyester reinforcement combinations. Efforts to incorporate standard glass reinforcements proved futile as the glass fiber based products failed prematurely in all T-peel efforts.
