Acceptance sampling of incoming items is a common activity conducted by purchasers in many different industries. In the commercial nuclear industry, procurements of replacement parts for operating plants typically involve small quantities purchased in isolated lots. This paper discusses a newly issued guideline, EPRI NP-7218, prepared specifically for acceptance sampling of commercial grade items for safety related use. Unlike most sampling publications, a major emphasis is placed on the technical selection factors which should be considered before selecting a sampling plan.
