Evaluation of Hot Lime Slurry in Cold In-Place Recycling
SourceThe use of asphalt emulsion with hot lime slurry in cold in-place recycled (CIR) mixtures was evaluated as an alternative to the use of conventional asphalt emulsions (AE) or class C fly ash. Reclaimed asphalt pavement was mixed with 1.5% AE, 8% and 12% class C fly ash, 1.5% AE with 1.5% hydrated lime, and 1.5% AE with 1.14% CaO introduced as hot lime slurry. The samples were evaluated in the laboratory for indirect tensile strength, resilient modulus and moisture sensitivity using AASHTO T283. Samples were tested in the Asphalt Pavement Analyzer for ratting resistance and moisture damage.
The results indicated CIR mixtures with AE and hot lime slurry performed better than either the AE or the AE with hydrated lime samples in tensile strength, rutting resistance and moisture damage. It is recommended that CIR mixtures with hot lime slurry be considered as an alternative to CIR with class C fly ash.
