Retention and Transport of Oil Residue in a Sandy Loam Soil
SourceThe behaviour of a natural soil obtained from Bahrain, containing oil residue as a stabilizing agent has been experimentally investigated to determine the effectiveness of the mixture, particularly with respect to leaching forces. The experimental work focuses on the examination of interaction mechanisms, retention potential and leaching behaviour. The results show good attenuation of the oil residue in the tested soils. This is attributed to low aqueous mobility of the oil and good interaction behaviour. The bondings between oil and soil surfaces are shown to be dominated by Van der Waal's attraction, weak hydrogen bonding and cation and water bridging.
