Eliminating Bypass Valves in Selected Oxygen Systems
SourceCGA Pamphlet G-4.4 recommends the use of bypass valves around isolation valves “where required to minimize adiabatic compression or particle impingement.” Bypass valves add cost and can be vulnerable components. Strategies for eliminating the need to provide bypass valves are reviewed based upon an interpretation of the intent of bypass valves and the thesis that an isolation valve should be operated either without differential pressure or with minimal differential pressure.
