Oxygen Piping Code—Where Knowledge Becomes Practice: Keynote Address
SourceThe principles of oxygen safety have been well known for many years, but oxygen fires—most having the same technical causes—continue to occur. This paper reviews several typical oxygen fire incidents. The author points out that, despite the best efforts of the ASTM G-4 Committee and others to inform and educate, existing knowledge about oxygen system safety does not reach the people who need it most, such as architects, engineers, contractors, building inspectors, and insurance underwriters. The author suggests that the ultimate solution is a national oxygen piping code and that the ASTM G-4 Committee should take an active role in its development.
