Contamination Sensitivity of Hydraulic Pumps and Valves

The article describes the methods and results of the examinations of the wear behavior of pressure controlled pumps and proportional valves. For the purpose of examination, pressure controlled pumps are exposed to a reproducible wear load in highly contaminated oil by means of a special developed test procedure. An analysis of the damage process that occurs in several tribological systems shows that the wear behavior of pumps and valves is highly dependent on the constructive design and materials of single tribological systems. On the basis of examples, provisions for wear design to minimize wear are pointed out.
