Rain Simulator for Laboratory Evaluation of Pesticide Rainfastness
SourceA nozzle-type rainfall simulator has been developed utilizing a single, small capacity full cone spraying nozzle, TG 2.8W, which is stationary over the spray area and pointed downward. Rainfall intensity, drop size and velocity distributions were determined for two heights and several operating pressures. At a height of 95 cm above the target area intensities ranged from 27 to 46 mm/h, drop sizes ranged from 736 to 403 microns, and kinetic energy values varied from 1.5E-07 to 2.5E-08 Joules/drop over the pressure range of 69 to 207 kPa. Compared to natural rainfall the intensity is near the upper amount for typical rainfall events and the kinetic energy and drop size are between that of a mist and a drizzle, the most common rainfall events. The characteristics of the simulated rainfall from this unit are satisfactory for pesticide rainfastness studies from plant foliage.
