Technology Enablers for Manufacturing Resilience in the COVID-19 and Post–COVID-19 Era

CODEN: SSMSCY

Abstract

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has created substantial detrimental impacts on the global manufacturing industry. The COVID-19 outbreak across the globe has caused a short supply of raw materials and components required to keep production running in the automobile, chemical, electronics, and aircraft sectors. In this technical note, the authors present their views on how different manufacturing stages are affected by various COVID-related factors. The authors discuss their ideas on employing emerging industry 4.0 technologies as building blocks of resilience themes necessary to circumvent COVID-related disruptions and make future manufacturing resilient, efficient, and cost-effective.
