D8148 - Test Method for Spectroscopic Determination of Haze in Fuels
A Multi-site Study for Comparison of Workmanship Appearance Ratings was conducted in 2024. six labs tested 5 different fuels. late Q2 to late Q3 of 2024, WK84724 enabled the collection of a large amount of empirical haze clarity index (HCI) field data from the D8148 haze probe apparatus and D4176 Procedures 1 and 2 attribute data. The data, from six different laboratories comprised 375 Diesel, 328 Gasoline, 42 Jet and 4 trans-mix fuel samples. When a logistic regression statistical model was applied to correlate “clear and bright” D4176 procedure 1 results to D8148 haze clarity index (HCI) rating results, support for a D8148 revision to add a new pass/ fail procedure was found.
