Modelling the Overaging Kinetics of 18Ni250 Maraging Steel

CODEN: MPCACD

Abstract

The kinetics of overaging in 18Ni250 maraging steel was studied by (i) modelling the overaging softening behavior, (ii) an aging parameter approach, and (iii) modelling the kinetics of austenite reversion. Changes in kinetics of 18Ni250 maraging steel is calculated as a function of volume fraction of reverted austenite. Softening behavior during overaging was modelled by the Wilson model and the Pardal et al. model. Both the models were found to be in good agreement with experimental data, but the Pardal et al. model showed a better fit. An S-type curve had a better fit compared to a linear fit while relating hardness to the aging parameter with a material constant of C = 20. The kinetics of austenite reversion was studied using the JMAK model, and the activation energy for the austenite reversion process was estimated as 218 kJ/mol.
