Chapter 4 | Bone Grafts Based on Demineralized Bone Matrix

Source

Demineralized bone matrix (DBM) is an osteoinductive bone graft material that has been shown to actively stimulate the bone healing process. Because of this characteristic, various bone graft products containing DBM have been introduced into the orthopedic and spinal markets. However, the osteoinductivity of DBM is sensitive to various factors including processing, sterilization, and product composition. Th is chapter reviews the methodology for developing a DBM product and discusses the factors that can affect its osteoinductivity.
