Chapter 17 | Analytical and Testing Methods for Surfactants
SourceThis chapter describes physical and analytical test methods that are used to assay surfactants by themselves or in products/formulations. To identify and quantify the amount of surfactant(s) present in products, they must be isolated using various isolation techniques, such as chromatography, or separation techniques, such as distillation, foam fractionation, liquid-liquid extraction, precipitation, and miscellaneous others. Once this is accomplished, various wet analytical methods and spectroscopic and instrumental methods can be used to quantify the amount of surfactant present in a product or a formulation. This chapter also has a list of methods as they apply to specific classes and chemical types of surfactants.
