This chapter describes surfactant use in products used in personal-care products and cosmetics. Surfactants are the essential ingredients in these product formulations. They fulfill various functions, including that of wetting agents, emulsifiers, dispersing agents, and cleansing agents. They are used in skin-care products, such as soaps and body washes; skin and body lotions; hair-care products, such as shampoos and conditioners; and in decorative cosmetics, such as lipsticks and foundations.
