Chapter 26 | Static Petroleum Measurement

Source

Static petroleum measurement establishes the methods of determining the quantity of a liquid petroleum in a fixed vessel while eliminating nonpetroleum items for custody transfer and inventory control purposes. Physical measurements are made of the total liquid and nonpetroleum fractions such as water or sludge. The nonpetroleum fractions are eliminated leaving only the petroleum quantity. Petroleum expands and contracts with temperature. This chapter describes a method of calculating petroleum to a standard temperature using observed density, temperature, and pressure. The standard temperature is normally 60°F or 15°C. Volume correction factor tables are used to bring observed volume to the standard temperature. This provides the ability to equate volumes at differing times, temperatures, and pressures for purchase and inventory control.
