Chapter 44 | Cold Flow Properties

Source

Fuel and lubricant flow at low temperatures is a critical aspect of whether they will perform as needed. While viscosity is an excellent indication of performance, residual wax in fuel or lubricant may limit flow. Thus, the amount and type of residual wax in a fuel or lubricant has a significant impact on its low temperature properties. Due to the residual wax and similar components, the test conditions for the various types of fluids are optimized to detect this type of components impact on low temperature flow. This chapter reviews the current low temperature fluidity measurements of fuels and lubricants.
