Risk-Based Cleanup Criteria

Source

Calculating cleanup levels based on the results of a sitespecific risk assessment can be detailed or simple depending on the requirements at a particular site. In either case, the approach to he used should be as simple as possible and familiar to the regulatory agencies that will be reviewing the document. A simple approach will usually be health protective and generally more acceptable to regulators than a complicated approach, but may be overly stringent. A more detailed approach can produce values that are somewhat less conservative but may not be as readily acceptable. Regulatory agencies generally have limited time and resources and may not be able to review and accept a complex novel approach.
