Chapter 7 Introduction to Fatigue

Source

THE DISCUSSION in the preceding chapters described the fracture behavior of components subjected to a monotonically increasing load. However, most equipment and structural components are subjected to repeated fluctuating loads whose magnitude is well below the fracture load under monotonic loading. Examples of equipment and structures subjected to fatigue loading include pumps, vehicles, earthmoving equipment, drilling rigs, aircraft, bridges, ships, and offshore structures.
